Bio
I received an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon, in 2008. Many thanks to the volunteer founders of Turkish Educational Foundation (TEV), I was supported as their scholarship student during my undergraduate education between 2004-2008. I then moved to Metapontum Agrobios S.R.L, Italy where I started my master project under the supervision of Dr. Rina Iannacone in 2010. In the same year, I completed my studies with a thesis dissecting the transgenic tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum cv. UC82 MA) expressing the Arabidopsis HDZip transcription factor ATHB7. Inspired by the power of trans-gene based technology and wanting to understand the plant development under harsh abiotic factors, I started my PhD studies, the department of Experimental Sciences at Texas Tech (TTU), USA, with the help of The Council of Higher Education of Turkey (CoHE). A year after I joined the group of Prof. H. Zhang’s in 2014, I was appointed as a Research Associate at the TTU in Plant Biology for the entire year. My doctoral work focused on the additive effect of multi-gene co-overexpression for salt tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana. I am grateful to all of my supervisors, mentors and collleagues for their support. All of their contribution is so much valuable for my exciting research endeavors and upcoming career.
